A healthy, natural smile is priceless. Orthodontics is all about creating a beautiful, natural, healthy smile. A healthy smile is important for our overall health, our facial appearance and our self-esteem.
Overcrowding, crooked and protruding teeth can lead to many health problems. Crowded teeth are more difficult to clean which increases the chances of tooth decay, gum disease and tooth loss. Protruding teeth are more likely to be damaged during childhood, and teeth that do not meet properly are more likely to show signs of excessive wear. Orthodontic treatment involves the use of corrective braces to ensure proper alignment of the teeth and jaws. For many children and adults, orthodontic treatment leads to improved self-esteem. It’s never too late to correct an orthodontic problem. Although it is easier to treat a growing child, orthodontics can be carried out at any age.
An Orthodontist is the most qualified person to diagnose, prevent and treat problems with the alignment of teeth and jaws. An Orthodontist is a Specialist in Orthodontics and is registered by the Dental Council of Ireland. After qualifying as a dentist, modern Orthodontists will undertake an additional 3 years of extensive, full-time post graduate education, giving them the specialist knowledge required to diagnose and treat different orthodontic conditions. To become a member of the Orthodontic Society of Ireland, it is necessary to be recognised as a Specialist Orthodontist by the Dental Council of Ireland.
